5 Tips for Teaching Kids to Brush

Teaching your kids to brush their teeth right from a young age is extremely important. Brushing teeth is a basic hygiene practice, which, if not done right, puts you at risk of numerous dental, oral, and gut infections. Teaching kids to brush their teeth can be challenging, as it’s a new experience for them and may even scare them.

This blog post lists 5 tips that’ll make this ordeal less stressful for you and less scary for your child.

  1. Brush Your Teeth in Front of Them

Kids follow what they see. They may not follow verbal instructions well, but they take visual cues really well. One of the best ways to teach your kids to brush their teeth is to brush your teeth in front of them so that they know that it’s something they’ve got to do. Watching you will also help them understand the correct brushing technique.

  1. Start When the Child is Still Young

Don’t wait for your child to come to an age where they understand why they’re doing a certain thing. It would be best to teach your child to brush their teeth while they’re still young so they can get into a routine of brushing their teeth regularly and easily.

  1. Let Them Choose a Toothpaste and Toothbrush

A child will be motivated to brush their teeth if you keep them involved and engaged in the process from the start. Let your child choose a toothpaste and toothbrush they like, so they’re more excited to brush their teeth every day!

  1. Reward Them Often

Everyone loves rewards, including kids. When your child brushes their teeth correctly, reward them with something they like. It could be an extra few minutes of screen time or a sticker. This would encourage them to brush their teeth regularly till it becomes a habit.

  1. Make the Time Fun

Make the time your kid brushes their teeth fun so that your kid looks forward to it. You can sing and dance to poems while brushing your teeth or make brushing time a fun story time.
