Sedation

No matter what kind of procedure your child is coming to our office for, it’s very important to us that we provide all our patients with a comfortable and pain-free experience. Any procedure we perform that could possibly cause any discomfort will be accompanied by a local anesthetic. This means that lidocaine will be used to numb the affected area of your child’s mouth. However, for children who may have dental anxiety or for more intensive procedures, we have sedation options available.

Dental Sedation Options in Greensboro, North Carolina

Below are the sedation options we offer to our patients here at Piedmont Pediatric Dentistry:

  • Nitrous Oxide – Nitrous oxide is more commonly known as “laughing gas.” This type of sedation consists of breathing in nitrous oxide gas which is administered through a mask placed over your child’s nose. This will induce a feeling of calm and relaxation, allowing your child to be awake but anxiety-free.
  • Hospital or Surgical Center Anesthesia – If your child needs a more extensive surgery or has a medical condition that could complicate dental procedures, he or she may be admitted to a hospital or surgical center. In this instance, an anesthesiologist would be the one administering the anesthesia to your child and monitoring him or her throughout the entire procedure.

We know that it can be scary for your child to undergo sedation of any kind. Please let us know about any questions or concerns you may have about your child’s sedation. Your confidence in your decision is very important to us and we’re happy to answer any questions you might have.

Here at Piedmont Pediatrics, your child’s health, safety, and comfort are our priorities. To make an appointment, please contact our Greensboro, NC pediatric dental office today.
