Properly Cleaning Invisalign Trays

Invisalign aligners have many benefits. However, if you aren't properly caring for your aligners, you may begin to have embarrassing problems, as improperly cleaned trays will discolor or cause unpleasant odors.

Tips for Cleaning Your Invisalign Trays

  • Clean your teeth and trays in the morning – Bacteria builds up on your aligners during the night, which makes your morning oral hygiene routine even more important. Clean your teeth and trays every morning and night.
  • Rinse the aligners when you remove them – Besides your morning and evening cleaning routine, you should also rinse your trays when you take them out to prevent plaque buildup or dried on saliva.
  • Don't leave the trays out in the open – When your aligners aren't in your mouth, they should be in their case. Otherwise, they're vulnerable to the bacteria in the air.
  • Soak your aligners once daily – Soak your trays every day in either Invisalign cleaning crystals or denture cleaner. This will help them look and smell their best and loosen plaque or bacteria buildup.
  • Brush and floss – Caring for your teeth and gums is another crucial part of keeping your Invisalign trays clean. You should be flossing and brushing at least twice every day.

Your child still needs to receive regular dental cleanings and checkups, even when undergoing orthodontic treatment. To make an appointment, please call Piedmont Pediatric Dentistry in Greensboro, North Carolina.
