Benefits of Early Dental Visits for Kids

The earlier you start taking your child for a regular dental checkup, the healthier their teeth and gums will remain throughout their lives. When started at the right time, pediatric dental care ensures that your child's primary teeth remain healthy and free of decay and other dental issues.

Following are some reasons you should start taking them to a pediatric dentist as soon as possible.

  • Monitor the Development of Their Mouth: After your child's baby teeth start to sprout, their teeth and gums start developing at a rapid speed. This process doesn't stop until they're well into their adolescence. Having a pediatric dentist monitor this process ensures that there are no issues in the development of their mouth. They can even notice early signs of potential malocclusion and fix them before they even become an issue.

  • Prevent Oral Issues: When a dentist is regularly checking your child's teeth, it is almost impossible for them to miss out on signs of decay and other issues. More often than not, these issues get spotted by dentists before they can cause any harm. On the other hand, not visiting a dentist regularly could lead to you not noticing these issues until after they have caused irreversible damage.

  • The Child Gets Used to It: Many children are scared of going to the dentist – mostly because they don't start until it's late and they've already developed a negative view of the dentist. Starting early allows them to have an unbiased view, as it helps them familiarize themselves with the pediatric dental clinics' environments, which are usually designed to be kid-friendly. Developing these healthy habits earlier will help them carry them into their adult life.

Dentists recommend that your child's first dental appointment be 6 months after their first baby tooth sprouts or when they turn 1 and a half-years-old, whichever happens first. If you haven't started taking your kid to a pediatric dentist yet, visit Piedmont Pediatric Dentistry in Greensboro, NC, as soon as possible.
